    October at Alcoeur Gardens

Here is a little peak on some things that happened during the month at Alcoeur Gardens of Brick and Toms River. This month we celebrated Barbara and Sarah's Birthdays, had a blast singing karaoke, were swooned by performers Nicky D, April, John and more, learned all about snakes, turtles, owls from our friends at Cattus Island Park, and had tons of fun and laughs at our Halloween Parties. Enjoy! #alcoeurgardenstomsriver #AlcoeurGardens #alcoeurgardensbrick #dementianjmemory

    Why Some Drugs Fail

New insights into a specific gene variant may help to explain why some Alzheimer's drugs work in certain people but may fail in others. The findings call for a more personalized approach to drug testing. An individual's genotype may explain why some Alzheimer's drugs work and others fail, new research shows. Earlier this year, a study led by Dr. Kinga Szigeti, Ph.D., who is the director of the Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders Center at the University of Buffalo, NY, f

Hearing and Saying Words in Alzheimer's

BETTER COMMUNICATION: Which words are easier and harder for people with dementia? When finding the right word or comprehending a complex phrase becomes difficult, helpful research gives clarity on which word types work best. Scientists say they have a better understanding of why people with Alzheimer's struggle to recognize and understand words - and their research has the potential to be developed into a test which could help clinicians make an early diagnosis. Alzheimer’s Disease Destroys Neurons that Keep Us Awake

Researchers and caregivers have noted that excessive daytime napping can develop long before the memory problems associated with Alzheimer’s disease begin to unfold. Prior studies have considered this excessive daytime napping to be compensation for poor nighttime sleep caused by Alzheimer’s-related disruptions in sleep-promoting brain regions, while others have argued that the sleep problems themselves contribute to the progression of the disease.
